World Environment Day marked with several activities

06 June 2012 - The World Environment Day -  5 June-  was marked with several activities in Kosovo organized by the Ministryof Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP) and  the Kosovo EnvironmentalProtection Agency (KEPA).
At the core of activity “Green and clean environment inschools”, three schools were rewarded with best prices for cleanestenvironment.
From 13 schools proposed by MESP and the Ministry ofEducation, the first place went to the elementary school “Liria” in Milloshevë,Obiliç municipality, which was awarded with 2000 EUROs. The  second placewent to “Martin Camaj” school from Gurakoc, Istog municipality with the rewardof 1000 EUROs and the third place was given to “Kajtaz Ramadani” from Kijeva,Malishevë municipality which was awarded with 600 EUROs.
In yet another activity named “Say no to plastic bags”,textile bags were distributed to citizens.
Other activities included a presentation of KEPA activitiesfollowing six years of its creation. In a press conference, KEPArepresentatives focused on its latest achievements: “Participation of KEPA inactivities of European Environmental Agency” and “Conclusion of the system formonitoring of air quality in Kosovo”.
World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed atbeing the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positiveenvironmental action. World Environment Day activities take place all yearround but climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.
World Environment Day celebration began in 1972 and hasgrown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulatesworldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention andaction.
Through World Environment Day, the UN Environment Programmeis able to personalize environmental issues and enable everyone to realize notonly their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change insupport of sustainable and equitable development.
 World Environment Day is also a day for people fromall walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighteroutlook for themselves and future generations. This year the 5 June was named“Green Economy: Does it include you?”.
