Post of Kosovo, through its Philately, on 28.09.2025, on the occasion of the World Rivers Day, issues the new postage stamp series "Endemic Fauna." The discovery and description of four new species of endemic aquatic insects for the territory of Kosovo represents a special achievement in the fields of natural sciences and biodiversity conservation. This discovery is the result of dedicated teamwork by entomology researchers, who, through a combination of field research and laboratory analysis, have managed to identify these rare and very important organisms. Besides their scientific value, these findings also represent a call to raise awareness about the protection of fragile aquatic ecosystems in Kosovo.
Rhyacophila siparantum – discovered in 2021 in a small stream in the village of Bogë in Peja. This species plays an important role in water purification but faces the risk of extinction due to habitat degradation caused by infrastructure construction. Its name is related to the old name of Peja.
Tinodes lumbardhi – discovered in a branch of the Lumbardhi River in Deçan in 2025. Only a few individuals were found, a consequence of severe river pollution. Its name is directly linked to the river where it was identified, highlighting its ecological role.
Drusus dardanicus – discovered in 2015 in Bollosicë of Podujeva and later in several branches of the Llap River. This species is threatened by deforestation and degradation of the source areas. Its name comes from the ancient city “Municipium Dardanicum,” while its main function is related to maintaining the cleanliness of water sources.
Potamophylax kosovaensis – discovered in the Bajgora area in 2025. Their low numbers indicate the many pressures on the environment in that area. Its name refers to Kosovo, directly linking it to the place where it was found.
The Post of Kosovo, through postage stamps, supports the protection of endemic fauna and at the same time promotes the assets of the Republic of Kosovo in the world.
