26 September 2025
From 23–25 September 2025, within the framework of the IWRM-K Program and in cooperation with the Environment Agency Austria (EAA), a specialized training was held on biological monitoring, focusing on fish and macrozoobenthos. The training brought together representatives from RBDA, KEPA, HMIK, YWPK-Young Water Professionals Kosovo, as well as students and professors from the University of Prishtina, who gained/shared practical knowledge on monitoring the biological quality of water in line with European standards.
Over the course of three days, participants had the opportunity to:
Learn about Austrian and Kosovo assessment methods for fish and macrozoobenthos,
Take part in practical fieldwork at Bistrica e Shalës River (Leposaviç), including sampling and specimen collection,
Conduct laboratory work on species identification and assessment of water quality,
Discuss monitoring procedures, data collection, and harmonization of methods.
This hands-on training provided a unique exchange of expertise between Austrian and Kosovar specialists, while also enhancing technical and institutional capacities for sustainable river basin management.
